MyAgeing™ hosts Regional Training of Master Trainers (TOT) on Digital Literacy for Seniors

SERDANG, 5 September 2024 - The Malaysian Research Institute on Ageing (MyAgeing™), Universiti Putra Malaysia, in collaboration with the ASEAN Confederation of Women’s Organisations (ACWO) and the National Council of Women’s Organisations (NCWO) Malaysia, organised an Online Training of Master Trainers on Digital Literacy for Mature Women.

A total of 39 master trainers from ACWO member countries successfully completed the online training program aimed at enhancing their knowledge on digital/mobile technology. The primary objective was to equip master trainers with the skills needed to help mature women in their local communities to navigate and use digital tools more effectively.

The training sessions, held twice weekly from 19 August to 5 September, were based onMyAgeing™'s module on "Digital Literacy for Older Persons". This module was developed in 2020 with support from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Malaysia to encourage older individuals to stay connected during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A post-training assessment was conducted on the final TOT day to evaluate the program's effectiveness. The results showed a significant increase in the master trainers’ confidence in delivering digital literacy education. The master trainers also provided valuable feedback, noting that the interactive approach kept them engaged, and the practical examples were especially helpful in applying the knowledge in real-world contexts. This enhanced their ability to teach digital literacy to mature women in their communities.
The five (5) educational modules on Digital Literacy for Older Persons are available for download at https://myageing.upm.edu.my/.../program_literasi_digital.... This digital lifelong learning initiative was led by Prof. Ir. Dr. Siti Anom Ahmad, Faculty of Engineering, UPM along with her colleagues Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Fakhrul Zaman Rokhani as well as Ms. Siti Farra Zillah Abdullah, Mr. Mohamad Fazdillah Bagat, and Dr. Foong Hui Foh.

ACWO, the ASEAN Confederation of Women’s Organisations, was established to unite women’s voluntary organizations across the ASEAN region, working towards the full integration of women in development. It comprises the National Council of Women’s Organisations from each ASEAN member country.
