Kuala Lumpur, 11 October 2025 - The three-day Selangor International Care Summit (SICS) from 9 - 11 October 2025 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre attracted over 4,000 participants, according to YB Anfaal Saari, Selangor State Executive Council for Women Development and Social Welfare. The summit was anchored on five (5) pillars - advocacy and public awareness, quality of the care ecosystem, investment and financing models, technological innovation, as well as skills development and training.

 

Under the invitation of KiddoCare Malaysia, the Malaysian Research Institute on Ageing (MyAgeing®), Universiti Putra Malaysia, jointly organized a concurrent Workshop on Long-term Care Financing at SICS2025 on Saturday (11 October 2025). A. P. Dr. Rahimah Ibrahim, Director of MyAgeing® moderated the short workshop session with invited speakers from KENDANA Malaysia, ProtectHealth Corporation and the Gerontological Society of Singapore. Mr. Rashidi Yahya, CEO of KENDANA championed the professionalisation of caregivers through national certification and structured training while Dr. Muhammed Anis Abd Wahab of ProtectHealth emphasized the need of an integrated approach for health and social care provisions with sustainable financing models. Dr. Wayne Freeman Chong from the Gerontological Society of Singapore shared key lessons from Singapore’s CPF Life and CareShield Life schemes, including his own experience as a gero-psychologist.

 

The session (Track C) outlined five strategic pathways to strengthen Selangor’s aged care ecosystem:

1. Establish a Selangor LTC Fund blending public, private, and community financing.

2. Implement training, certification and registry framework to support caregivers and care workers.

3. Promote residential and non-residential facilities and services for transborder care.

4. Use and production of assistive technology for greater innovative care solutions

5. Form a Selangor Care Economy Council for multi-sectoral coordination.

 

The workshop session was well-received and participants engaged in lively Q&A as well as sharing of potential pathways for greater policymaking and public support for accessible LTC services. A. P. Dr. Nazim Mohtar, Deputy Director of MyAgeing® and Research Officer Mr. Chai Sen Tyng also actively participated in the SICS2025.
