Taiping on track to achieve age-friendly city status

TAIPING, 10 April 2021- Taiping is on track to becoming an age-friendly city, with various initiatives planned by the Taiping Municipal Council (MPT) expected to be completed in stages this year.

State Housing, Local Government and Tourism committee chairman Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohamed Radzi said the special area plan (RKK) for the heritage town includes various developments in areas such as lake gardens, heritage sites and markets.

"Among the planned and ongoing facelift projects are the Taiping Market, Kamunting Lake Garden and Taiping Royal Lake Garden.

"Besides, the RKK reforms also comprise age-friendly terms as an urban component in line with the Sustainable Development Goals," she said after launching the Taiping Survey and witnessing the exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding between MPT and Universiti Putra Malaysia yesterday.

Nolee said Taiping has been chosen for the age-friendly city pilot project based on the standards set by the World Health Organisation (WHO). --BERNAMA
